    Description

ShipShee was a prolific painter of the 1950's-1970's, a Potowatomi from Kansas who died in 1974. This self taught Native American Artist was born on the prairie band Potowatomi Reservation near Marietta, KS in 1896. Having studied with Dick West, an important contemporary Cheyenne painter, ShipShee painted many Indian Busts, both chiefs and women, and landscapes. His art is distinctively bold. I got this from a Native American museum in Pipestone MN, long ago. Mr ShipShee had visited the museum and the owner bought a few of his pieces. The curator told me how fiercely proud of his heritage ShipShee was. I was fortunate enough to get two of his paintings. This is the last I have. Note in the final photo, 3 holes next to his scarf; probably there since the skin was tanned. Deer or sheep skin, unsure. Free shipping in the USA lower 48 states.
